General Safety Guidelines For ATM Cards

ATM Cards has a main role in banking sector.Most of the Bank transactions are now with ATM Cards. But we are not giving much importance to the handling of ATM cards. Here are some points to note.






1.    Read carefully the user’s manual and instructions on the Personal Identification

       Number (PIN)   mailer.


2.    Sign the back of your Card as soon as you receive it.


3.    Use your new card on an ATM immediately to change the system generated PIN.

4.    Please change your PIN to a new four digit number if your choice, memorize it
       and destroy the PIN mailer.  Preferably, change it every quarter.

5.    Never use a PIN that could be easily guessed, e.g. your birthday or telephone
       number.

6.    Please keep the Personal Identification Number (PIN) secret and do not disclose

       In case the PIN is divulged, please change your PIN immediately at any ATM.

       the PIN to anybody, including a family member or your Banker.

7.    Giving your card and disclosing the PIN to someone is like giving a blank signed
       cheque.

8.    Please refrain from taking help from any strangers in the ATM room.

9.    Beware of “Shoulder surfing”, i.e. shield your PIN from onlookers by using your
       body.  Once you complete transaction, check to be sure that you have your card
       and your receipt, and then leave immediately.

10.  Never let anyone to see you enter your PIN.

11.  Please do not allow any other person to the ATM room when you are transacting
       on the ATM similarly please wait outside the ATM room if anybody is already
       inside.

12.  Please keep a separate note of your card number and associated account number.
       These particulars will be necessary for blocking the card in case of loss of the 
        card.

13.  Be alert. If you find signs of any external fittings or loose wiring, report to the
       Bank/contact centre and use another ATM.

Taking care of your card:

1.    Your card very is important and must be kept safely.

2.    The card must not be kept near a TV. 

3.    Store your card in secure place where you will immediately know if it is missing.

4.    Store the ATM- cum-Debit card carefully so that the magnetic strip does not get
       damage.



5.    Never leave your card unattended, e.g. in your card in a hotel room or at work.

2.    You can check your account balance on ATM.

3.    You can print last few transactions of your account through ATM.

4.    Card with PIN can be used for withdrawal of money from ATMs as well payment of
       bills at shops, restaurants, petrol pumps etc.
